Geohot just released Limera1n, to get Chronic Dev to “do the right thing”. It is currently only available for Windows with Mac and Linux support coming soon.

Chronic already aren’t happy and it seems Geohot is using an unstable untether.

geohot is using an unstable untether very much against the wishes of @comex @iphone_dev and @chronicdevteam

To get it go to http://www.limera1n.com

UPDATE:

The website now says “Download link pending discussion” perhaps Geohot is conversing with Chronic Dev? More updates as the story goes.

Geohot has said in IRC NOT to use the beta, and beta 2 is coming in 5 minutes. Reports are coming from users that it is failing on MC models.

UPDATE 2:

The link is back up (now beta 2)! With comex giving his approval of Geohot using it… to a degree.

Fine, geohot’s release now has my approval, because otherwise everyone would use the initial (pulled) broken version. Ugh.

UPDATE 3:

MuscleNerd has confirmed SHAtter will be held back

SHAtter will be held back now, so it’s not the worst possible scenario. Who knows, maybe SHAtter can even be improved

Geohot has also said to expect a Mac version tomorrow.

Redsn0w 9.6b1 Released

The Dev-Team has updated redsn0w to 9.6b1, with both a Windows and OS X client.

We’ve released a beta version of redsn0w for the iPhone3G and iPod Touch 2G at FW 4.1 or 4.0. It uses the same pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit that we’ve been using since the 2.x days. It does not include the SHAtter exploit developed by pod2g. Nothing new is revealed to Apple with this jailbreak.

If you use the ultrasn0w unlock, please wait for pwnagetool to support 4.1. Do not use redsn0w. That’s because to use redsn0w at 4.1, you need to already have updated to official 4.1 from Apple. If you do that, you lose the ultrasn0w unlock (possibly forever).

Note: if you have an “MC” model of the ipt2g, your 4.1 jailbreak will be tethered…sorry! (Consider rolling back to a FW supported by jailbreakme.com or spiritjb.com)

If you have any questions or problems, check out MuscleNerd’s Twitter feed (but please, don’t spam him), or read through the thread comments.

Microsoft and Adobe Tag-Teaming Against Apple?

The New York Times is reporting that the CEO of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer, and the CEO of Adobe, Shantanu Narayen, met up for a secret meeting discussing tactics to take down Appleas the leader in the mobile phone market.

The meeting, which lasted more than an hour, covered a number of topics, but one of the main thrusts of the discussion was Apple and its control of the mobile phone market and how the two companies could team up in the battle against Apple. A possible acquisition of Adobe by Microsoft were among the options.

The source claims that Microsoft is looking to acquire Adobe, but considering how Apple just flat-out doesn’t want Flash on iOS (in its current buggy state, at least), I fail to see how this plan would significantly effect Apple. Even if the partnership would allow Windows Phone 7 to have baked-in Flash goodness, it would do little to entice users to switch to the platform – considering the rise in HTML5 webapps and video.

The fact that the two tech giants met up shows that they are very worried about Apple’s current power-position, and are willing to do something radical to stop them. What does this mean for end users? That both sides will be creating better, more advanced, and innovative products in attempt to best each other. A win-win situation.
